Yay I have been waiting for Jess s story ever since The Noble Masquerade That s 6 books I ve been waiting yeah, yeah, it wasn t a hardship but still When we met Darek in book 2 of The Haven Manor series, I rang my hands in gleeful anticipation I knew Darek and Jess s chemistry was going to have me grinning up a storm And I wasn t wrong These two are a classic look at opposites attracting She gets him to look at the world differently and vice versatility They round each other out in such a wonderful way There was a mystery to this story that we haven t really seen in other Kristi Hunter books and it was well done and intriguing We were all along for the ride, trying to piece together the clues in the art I loved seeing beloved characters from past books as well And that closer scene was great and romantic I only wish there had been romantic scenes like that A bit heart eye swoonies and this story would have ticked all the boxes.

Stunning, utterly unique and gigantic twist in the whole Haven Manor series I literally could not stop reading What I loved about the very first book I read by this author has returned in what is by far the best in the series Kristi Ann Hunter is not only an author who can engage the reader in a fun, humorous way via the dialogue of the characters, but so skilled in her approach to story telling There is so many angles, and depth to this plot, the reader will not be able to see what is coming or where it will end A story based on something I genuinely know very little about, and a look into the past life of Jess, who has so far remained largely anonymous although essential to the stories of those who came before One should not be surprised in the least that you end up being quite literally that surprised What I especially love about this story, is there is growth and change in Jess too, as well as Derek the art expert that has been invited to Haven Manor to catalog Lord Chelmsfords inherited collection What you get to see between the two of them and individually is pure delight, and leaves a great sense of peace that we all have that ability to find ourselves given time and grace The common reminder that Jesus Christ gave the ultimate sacrifice, but yet, also gave us the perfect pattern to follow is another gratitude that I will take away from this story. Now I want to go right back to the beginning and read a Noble Masquerade again Another fantastic book by this author Her writing continues to be unique and a style all of her own You won t be disappointed to add this author as a must read Thank you to Netgalley for the eARC This is my honest review.

Kristi Ann Hunter is one of my favorite Regency period writers The setting of Haven Manor has been perfect for this series, and from her detailed descriptions, I think I could recognize the Manor if I came upon it during a walk in that fictional countryside Her storylines are interesting and always have a thread of intrigue There s been some other wonderful characters in this series, but Jess has always been the character in whom I ve been the most interested There s always been such mystery around her, and it was obvious that she had some serious defensive skills It was fun to read her story, and it was all that I d hoped for with a suspenseful storyline and a good dose of humor.I never would have put Jess and Derek together as a couple, but it was the perfect combination of their differences that made this story so entertaining to read I was looking for every chance I could find to read and see what was going to happen next We also get to catch up with some other characters from the series and that added to the fun This is a clean, sweet Regency story with a thread of faith that winds all the way through it I m ready to read through this series again, and at the same time, looking forward to the next one from this author.I received a copy of this book from the publisher All opinions are my own.

There is power beyond might and strength This book would take the whole of your mind and require your time to enjoy it It is that captivating To enjoy this book you have to have patience and be ready to settle down. The weight of a Nation rested on Jess and she did everything she could to save her people with the help of Derek Her wit, determination, survival instinct were unrivalled The author s writing style was wonderful, I learnt a lot of new words from it I love the various mentions of art in the book. The serious minded Derek, an expert on art and ancient writings His articulation, focus was endearing to read about I found it funny how they both got under each other s skin A wonderful story of triumphs, strength, family, pursuing what matters and determination This was one unpredictable book You can t just predict the ending I received a copy of this book from Netgallery All opinions expressed here are mine.

Finally we find out the backstory of the mysterious Jess My guesses regarding her history were woefully shy of the reality With Jess s ties to the Duke of Marshington, I was not surprised when he and other characters from A Noble Masquerade made appearances I will admit, Ryland, when not the hero of the story, can be exasperating But it was fun to finally tie the Hawthorne House and Haven Manor series together, and to find out how Jess moved from one to the other. It amused me highly that Jess, the highly efficient master of disguise and rather blood thirsty former spy, is forced to work with the one person in this world who annoys her than any other And that Derek, so oblivious to the world and so obsessed with art, is able to catch her out when she s up to her tricks It s pretty sweet justice Of course, once they quit fighting so much, they balance each other beautifully and form a great partnership.I really like how the romance played out Enemies to lovers is a pretty popular trope, but the author keeps it believable with a slow change of opinions, a gradual softening toward one another, working toward friendship and then attraction none of that getting into a fight that ends in passionate kissing nonsense Come to think of it, I m not sure they ever did kiss on page But it was a delightfully satisfying conclusion regardless.

I ve been waiting for Jess s story for ev er When you add the cameo appearances of beloved characters from other stories I was giddy with delight In fact, I think the cameo appearances is my favorite aspect of this story To see several books come together in one story happy dance I also loved the chemistry between Jess and Derek Seeing them interact usually had me chuckling and quickly reading to see what would happen next. There was also intrigue, mystery, and good ol fashion history rolled into A Pursuit of Home All in all, Ms Hunter kept me interested until the last page I received a complimentary book from the publisher My review was not required nor influenced Full review at

A Pursuit of Home Haven Manor Book 3 by Kristi Ann Hunter one should read the previous Regency Era books in order Fantastic Characters French Countryside, 1806 Jessamine Beauchene wealthy, royal niece to the King of Verbonne, petite at age 15 Her family attacked in the middle of the night Shoved into a hole in the floorboards with their family s secrets Absolutely one of my favorite scenes is when a beloved character from Kristi s very first novel appears The board lifted and the light from a single lantern revealed a pair of grey eyes What s your name he asked Jess hiccup Jess sniffle Well, Jess, the man said, I m here to rescue you How do you feel about going to England He is somewhat of a hero and definitely has amazing wit Without revealing too much I was thrilled to have him back Marlborough, England, 1816Ch 1 Sometimes despite time, distance, and a significant amount of ignoring it, the past never quite went away Over the past two days, everything Jess had run from had spilled over the wall of the past and covered her present like gravy Lumpy, bitter, burnt gravy Every emotion she d worked hard to bury had risen to the surface, making her mind a muddled swarm of incomplete thoughts and sharp colors her current situation irritated her she was going to have to ask a very bothersome man for his assistance She needed Derek Thornbury s help To get, she was going to have to ask him, which required talking to him, which required, which required being in the same room with him without taking her knife from its hidden sheath and stabbing him in the leg A tall order, as the man was simply too vexing for words I brought you tea I see that He crossed the room and lifted the top of the pot to gaze into the depths of the brown liquid Is it poisoned Derek was a scholar of antiquities He worked with things created by dead people When he was working he might go days without a significant interaction with anyone who drew breath Living people, quite inconveniently, required him to recall his manners and finish his sentences Jess wasn t merely an inconvenience, though She was a massive complication, a mystery that was constantly changing, frustrating him to no end even as it kept enticing him closer Tea Quote Anyone who insisted on foisting their romantic notions on her could find themselves with ipecac in their tea Faith Quote how important it was to seek God in the quiet times in order to know what to cling to in the chaos.Enjoyable story as always Thank you to Bethany House, the author and NetGalley for a copy My opinion is my own and given freely Keep updated on the author s website, Kristi Ann Hunter dot com Haven Manor Series The Haven Manor series follows a group of women who take what could have been a life crushing circumstance and turned it into an opportunity to help desperate women and their children from the same fate Their pasts may have brought these women here, but God has an amazing future in store for them Author s WebsiteBook 0.5 A Search for Refuge Margaretta s Story 03 2018 FREE eNovella available in print 2019 in the 3 author collection Love At Last Book 1 A Defense of Honor Kit s Story 06 05 2018Book 1.5 Legacy of Love Sarah s Story 10 2018 Novella in The Christmas Heirloom Collection featuring 4 different authorsBook 2 A Return of Devotion Daphne s Story 2 5 2019 Book 3 A Pursuit of Home Jess s Story 11 5 2019

Kristi Ann Hunter is one of my very favorite historical fiction authors so, of course, I was super excited for this book Add in the fact that this is Jess story and you would find me stalking the mailbox for days, awaiting its arrival I ve been looking forward to her book since discovering she would be than simply a quirky character in A Noble Masquerade and was most definitely not disappointed with what I found between the beautiful covers Along with being a favorite author, Ms Hunter is also one of the only authors of Regency novels whose works I will excitedly read again and again I have nothing against stories set in that time period, they just aren t typically to my liking But apparently, if you add in some especially quirky characters one of them being a valet with a couple missing fingers , sarcasm, intrigue, a treasure hunt, and some knife throwing, I ll stay up quite late trying to read just one chapter I found all of those things and much in this story I absolutely loved the new characters I got to meet, but also I had to grin at being reunited with some old friends While you don t have to read the books in order though I would highly recommend all of Ms Hunter s books , as the author does an excellent job of allowing each story to stand alone, I do think keeping up with the number of characters titles names may be slightly confusing if you haven t read the others If you have read the previous books in the series, then you ll already be acquainted with Derek Thornbury and Jess Beauchene Jess with her sharp tongue and equally sharp knives Derek with his quirkiness, affinity for all things art and history related, and penchant for spouting random facts Though I knew them a bit from the other books, I couldn t resist falling in love with them in this one Who can resist a hero that maybe isn t the most dashing man in the room, but who is loyal, stubborn, somewhat socially awkward, kind, and determined to do the right thing, regardless of the cost And Jess was something of a surprise for me I already knew her as this very blunt, somewhat hardened spy turned cook, but learning her history and background brought her to vivid life She is loyal, determined to protect those she loves, and is searching for a light in the shadows that she s lived in for so long Two things I greatly enjoyed The dialogue, sarcasm, and just the interesting way the characters viewed things had me cracking up than once and my husband looking at me, awaiting an explanation And the way the author chose to define so what real love looks and acts like Faith isn t a deep, long, theological discussion here, but rather is woven throughout the story and shown in a myriad of ways Overall, I can t think of a single page of this book that I didn t enjoy I would indubitably recommend it My thanks to the author for my copy of this book I was not required to write a review, positive or otherwise, and have not been compensated for it in any way All opinions expressed are my own.
