This debut was well shared over social media After seeing it so many times and finding a copy at my library, I decided to give this novel a try The heroine is very career focused in a time when women were expected to be wives and not in the workforce Elissa works for her father at his newspaper, but craves a larger role and respect Her former beau Cole, has learned from his mistakes and simply wants to re earn Elissa s heart. The story line was engaging I look forward to seeing what this author will offer next Solid debut

Seems to me, Spark, you can t value the beauty until you understand the journey What a fun debut by Rachel Scott McDaniel It has strong and passionate and sassy characters, a well paced and smoothly flowing plot, a great thread of intrigue and suspense that plays out with surprising twists and turns, and a romance that s frustrating but also tender and sweet The author also weaves into the plot the growth of women s rights and the hypocrisy found during the Prohibition era in the city of Pittsburgh during the 1920s Cole and Elissa are journalists who sharpen each other and set sparks professionally and personally They both have pasts that weigh them down with insecurities When Cole returns to Pittsburgh after a disgrace, Elissa can t forgive him for his betrayal and the hurt he caused five years ago As they attempt to outdo each other in finding the biggest scoop on a mysterious death of a prominent citizen, their long held love draws them together as they learn about what true love means If you enjoy historical romance, you will really enjoy this novel I received a copy of the book from Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas via JustRead Publicity Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive review All comments and opinions are solely my own.

Oh my word This novel is absolutely phenomenal I absolutely adored every moment of Elissa and Cole s story I was swept away into another time from the moment I started reading, and I was completely absorbed in the story, to the point that I even forgot I was reading and instead felt that I was living the story alongside the characters, a true mark of a magnificent writer Everything about this book made my heart soar, and I found myself caught between not wanting to stop reading and wanting to delay finishing because I didn t want it to end, the most delightful dilemma a bookworm can face Above the Fold touched my heart deeply in so many ways, especially the message that we are enough because we are God s children and our identity is only to be found in Him and who He made us to be, which is a reminder that my heart was thirsting for From page one I was blown away by the beautiful writing, when I grow up I want to write as well as this author does I seriously loved everything about Above the Fold, it s most definitely one of my favorite reads of 2019, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT Above the Fold is a total must read that is not to be missed I received an ebook copy of this book from the publisher which did not influence my review in any way All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

My Review of Above The Fold by Rachel Scott McDanielThe cover, the Twenties, the blue, the blurb, the look of the characters on the cover, old flames, redemption, coming back to what you knew, journalists, all of this makes Above The Line a shockingly wonderful book Signing up to read this on a hunch that it would be good was a smart idea, because this was good A new author to be on the lookout for, the suspense, the romance, the newspaper, all tells a story of the past and makes me miss something I never knew the newspaper I highly recommend this for readers who enjoy romance, historical fiction, or stories about newspapers and reporters.I received a complementary copy of this book from the author, all the thoughts are my own, I did not have to provide a review.

I ve wanted to read McDaniel s award winning debut, Above the Fold, for almost a year, and it didn t disappoint She drops the reader into 1922 Pittsburgh, where the hero and heroine work, compete, and flirt side by side at a newspaper office It s a fun ride As much as I enjoyed the well drawn characters and unpredictable plot, my favorite part of the book is McDaniel s talent to turn a phrase I m a fan

  9. Suzie Waltner says:

4.5 StarsFrom the 1920s setting to the hero and heroine going toe to toe for a headline, to the unexpected twists, and moments of levity between Cole and Elissa, Above the Fold is a delightful and entertaining story from the first page to the last.Rachel Scott McDaniel gives readers some Pittsburgh and women s equality history while weaving a story of competition, romance, learning our value in being the person God created us to be, and the value of forgiveness. This is a fresh and fun historical romance that s a throwback to classics such as His Girl Friday that you definitely do not want to miss.Disclosure statement I receive complimentary books from publishers, publicists, and or authors, including NetGalley I am not required to write positive reviews The opinions I have expressed are my own I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission s 16 CFR, Part 255.

With a determined heroine, a beautifully crafted mystery, and a love story that sizzles off the page, Above the Fold was a joy to read Rachel McDaniel has captured to perfection the roaring culture of the 1920 s newspaper business and the intricacies of two hearts yearning for a second chance at love I couldn t put it down.
